This guide is compiled to assist law journal candidates who are writing articles and to assist editors and cite checkers of articles to be published in the law journals.
Citing to Primary Documents such as Statutes and Admininstrative rules (Fed.)
BLBk rule 18.2.1 allows citation to online sources as if to original print if:
Authenticated document
Official version
Exact Copy (PDF)
Other Suggestions:
Bring all the pages of the article that you have when you have a question about a citation. Context helps.
Share information with others who are cite checking the same article.
Contact your editor about any author supplied information and to coordinate interlibrary loan requests for materials in order to reduce duplication of requests.
If you need to request a book or article through Interlibrary Loan:
1. Search the MLIC online catalog.
2. Contact a Reference Librarian, if you need help in identifying the source that is cited.
3. Contact your editor to see if others may also need the source to check
4. Complete the form located at the Interlibrary Loan site on the MLIC homepage.
5. When notified (notice is sent to your tu e-mail address), promptly pick up the requested item at the Circulation desk.
6. If the item must be returned, note the due date and return the item prior to that date. If you need to request more time, see Richard Todd at the Circulation Desk.
