Guide to the Bar Exam
Preparing for the Bar Exam

As of July 2021, Oklahoma has adopted the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE), which consists of essays and multiple-choice questions. The UBE comprises three sections: a Multistate Performance Test (MPT), a Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and a Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). The minimum passing score for the UBE in Oklahoma is 264. This guide offers information on how to register for the Uniform Bar Exam in Oklahoma and the bar exam preparation materials available at the library.

The Uniform Bar Exam (UBE)

The Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) is a standardized bar exam created by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE). "It is uniformly administered, graded, and scored and results in a portable score that can be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions" (NCBE, 2023). As previously mentioned, the UBE has three sections. More details below:

  • Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) - The MEE contains six 30-minute questions and has a weight of 30% in scoring the exam. The purpose of the MEE is to test the examinee’s ability to (1) identify legal issues raised by a hypothetical factual situation; (2) separate material which is relevant from that which is not; (3) present a reasoned analysis of the relevant issues in a clear, concise, and well-organized composition; and (4) demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental legal principles relevant to the probable solution of the issues raised by the factual situation.
  • Multistate Performance Test (MPT) - The MPT contains two 90-minute items that require the examinee to read through a file and library for relevant facts and law needed to provide analysis and complete the MPT section. Sample answers may be formatted as legal memoranda analyzing the provided information. Jurisdictions that administer the UBE weight the MPT component 20%.
  • Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) - The MBE is a six-hour, 200-question multiple-choice examination. Jurisdictions that administer the UBE weight the MBE component 50%.

Each state has their own expectations and score requirements to pass the UBE. Below is an image from the National Conference of Bar Examiners showcasing what states currently offer the UBE and what minimum score is required to pass in each state as of 2022.
